‘Customer’ charged with stealing cellphone

KELLON Peters, who allegedly stole a cellular phone from an electronic store while posing as a customer, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was granted $25,000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly.

The ‘C’ Field, Sophia resident pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge and will make his next court appearance on July 9, 2021.

The charge alleged that, on May 31, 2021, at America Street and Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, he stole one Samsung A72 cellular phone valued at $109,000 belonging to Feyaad Nohar.

According to the prosecution, Peters entered Leading Technology and inquired about purchasing a cellphone. He left the store but returned about 15 minutes. Staff became suspicious and asked him to leave the store. He became annoyed and smashed his fist against a glass display case. He then reportedly grabbed the phone mentioned in the charge and fled.

A report was made and he was later arrested. The phone was reportedly found in his left side pants pocket.
