ADYEMI Dumisani Hinds, who was allegedly caught with three pounds of cocaine hidden in the bottom of his hand luggage at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), was, on Thursday, remanded to prison on a drug-trafficking charge.
Hinds of Iguana Drive, North Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court and denied that on June 1, 2021, at Timehri, he had 1.520 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Latchman remanded Hinds to prison until June 29, 2021.
According to reports, on the day in question, Hinds was an outgoing passenger scheduled to leave for the United States on a JetBlue flight.
It is alleged that Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks at the airport pulled Hinds’ small, black hand luggage at the screening point based on suspicion.
A probe of the luggage revealed a white powdery substance, suspected at the time to be cocaine. Hinds was arrested and taken to the CANU’s headquarters, where the substance which was located at the bottom of the luggage was examined. The substance was tested and the results revealed that it was cocaine.
