Two die of COVID-19

–173 new cases recorded in 24 hours

THE Ministry of Health, on Tuesday, recorded two more deaths due to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 308.
The latest fatalities are a 58-year-old female and a 65-year-old male, both from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). The Ministry of Health reported that they both died while receiving medical care at a public facility. Additionally, the Ministry of Health has recorded 173 news cases of COVID-19 from 1,156 tests conducted for Tuesday, May 4. Of these new cases, Region One (Barima – Waini), recorded one; Region Two (Pomeroon – Supernaam), one; Region Three (Essequibo Islands – West Demerara), 23; Region Four (Demerara – Mahaica), 69; Region Five (Mahaica – Berbice), two; Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne), 37; Region Seven (Cuyuni – Mazaruni), 12; Region Nine (Upper Takutu – Upper Esequibo), 21 and Region 10 (Upper Demerara – Berbice), seven.

There are currently 16 persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 100 in institutional isolation, 1,733 isolated at home, and 10 in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed a total of 13,829 cases of COVID-19 since it was first recorded in the country. Of that number, 2,157 are currently active; and of the 11,672 recoveries, 76 were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
