MINISTER of Housing and Water, Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry, Susan Rodrigues, on Saturday, signed a $34.7 million contract for a water supply system that will serve the community of Kaibarupai, Region Eight.
The contract was inked during a simple ceremony at Kato and handed over to the contractor, Rudranauth Roopdeo, who is the Managing Director of R. Kissoon contracting services.
Among those present at the signing were GWI’s Hinterland Services Director, Ramchand Jailall, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Andre Ally.
Residents were reminded, by Minister Croal, of the government’s commitment to delivering potable water to every community where possible, further noting that hinterland communities will not be left out from the government’s developmental agenda.
The scope of this project includes the drilling of potable water well, supply and installation of a distribution network, installation of a pump and photovoltaic system, construction of an elevated storage system and installation of storage tanks, service connections and interconnection to the distribution network.
An estimated 438 persons will benefit from access to potable water following the completion of this water supply project.
GWI’s Hinterland Department will execute resistivity logging of the community to determine the location where the well will be drilled. The duration of this project is an estimated three months.
Also, a donation of sports equipment was made to the community.
