TEAM Alanis and Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) have been given permission by the COVID-19 Task Force to host a 60-mile road race from Georgetown to Mahaicony on Wednesday, May 5, Arrival Day. The event, which is scheduled to start and finish at Carifesta Avenue will pedal off at 12:30hrs.
This will be the second successive 60-mile race by Team Alanis.
Two Sundays ago, 40 cyclists started a similar race over the same route. In the end, it came down to a battle between National Road Race Champion Jamual John and rival Briton John.
John was able to pull away close to the finish line, but Briton was equally up to the task.
Both riders and eight others have been shortlisted by the federation for the Caribbean Elite Men’s Time Trials and Road Race Championships.
That event is scheduled for June 11-12 in Havana, Cuba.

Along with the two Johns, Andrew Hicks, Christopher Griffith, Marcus Keiler, Alex Mendes, Deeraj Garbarran, Michael Anthony, Scott Savory and Raynauth Jeffrey have also been shortlisted.
The last two are based in the US and are teammates to John and Anthony, who travel over regularly to take part in Team Foundation (based in New York) events.
In order to make the cut, the riders will have to excel at next month’s National Championships and the Independence Four-Stage race.
The top five performers will travel to the Spanish-speaking Caribbean island.
The Arrival Day race will give the local riders much-needed competition practice before the National Championships in late May.
Although the GCF has allocated dates for the events, they are still awaiting confirmation from the task force. The three-part event is scheduled for May 22, 23 and 30 and will have a time trials (10 miles), senior road race (100 miles) and junior, female, and veteran road race (distance unconfirmed).
