Hetmyer contributes to nine junior cricketers

GUYANA and West Indies batsman, Shimron Hetmyer, partnered with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and handed out $25,000 each to nine junior cricketers as part of his ‘Shimron /Nirvani Hetmyer/Berbice Cricket Trust Fund’.

The cricketers were selected from teams in the New Amsterdam/Canje area. The money, according to the BCB, would be used to obtain educational materials from Metro Stationery in New Amsterdam.

BCB president, Hilbert Foster, expressed thanks to the 24-year-old West Indian player for his ongoing support towards cricket in the Actient County and urged the young cricketers to remain focussed and disciplined.

Hetmyer, a former Berbice High School student, in brief remarks, spoke of the importance of education and committed himself to continuing the programme in the future.

BCB Patron, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, at the presentation ceremony, congratulated the 2016 ICC U-19 World Cup player for remembering his roots.
