Two more COVID deaths, one new case recorded

Two men, a 71-year-old man of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), and a 70-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) died from COVID-19 on Sunday while receiving care at a medical facility, taking the number of fatalities from the dreaded disease to 188, since Guyana recorded its first case in March 2020.

This reflects the eleventh COVID-19 death for February 2021. While 112 COVID-19 tests were carried out within the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health has recorded only one new case from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). No other regions documented new cases.

There are currently seven persons occupying the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while 45 persons remain institutionally isolated and 595 persons are isolated at home. Twenty-six persons are institutionally quarantined.

Sixteen new recoveries were recorded, taking the overall number of recoveries to 7,399. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
