Man gets one year for stealing from food business

VISHAUL Jones, who was caught stealing items from a food business, was, on Friday, sentenced to one year in prison by Magistrate Leron Daly when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Jones of West Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to the simple larceny charge when it was read to him. Particulars of the charge are that Jones, on January 25, 2021, at Robb Street, Georgetown, stole one generator valued at $300,000, one green 100 pound gas cylinder valued at $50,000, one blue garbage bin valued at $10,000, one cream ‘fold-up’ table valued at $10,000 and one blue and white water cooler valued at $10,000, property of Lucia Desir. According to the facts, Desir and Jones are not known to each other. Desir is the owner and manager of Stella Diner, located at Lot 73 Robb Street. Desir secured her business on January 23 at 16:30 hours, leaving everything intact. On January 25, 2021, Jones was caught removing the items mentioned in the charge by a security guard. Jones was arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station where the items were also lodged.
