Man charged with cannabis possession granted bail

A MAN, who was caught with cannabis in his possession, was, on Friday, placed on $10,000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. John Slate of Sheriff Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the possession of narcotics charge. It is alleged that Slate, on January 7, 2021, at Lot 11 North Road, had in his possession a narcotic specifically, 3 grams of cannabis. According to information provided,on the day in question, at about 09:30 hours, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eve Leary, acting on information received, went to Lot 11 North Road. At that address, Slate was contacted and a request was made by the police to conduct a search on his person and his bag in his presence, to which he complied. During the search, two transparent ziplock plastic bags were found consisting of seeds, leaves and stems that were suspected to be cannabis. The bags were shown to Slate and he was told of the offence committed. Slate was then arrested, cautioned and escorted to the CID Headquarters with the suspected cannabis. The cannabis was weighed in Slate’s presence. He was subsequently charged. The matter was adjourned until March 26.
