,,, says performance during practice games at LBI crucial

By Clifton Ross

A SEASON ago Kemol Savory made his national debut for Guyana Jaguars and time away from the team and live cricket has made the wicketkeeper/batsman even hungrier as he’s bent on playing his way back into the side.
Savory and a number of his Academy and senior teammates will be engaging in some live action at the new LBI Cricket Ground, as part of their preparations for next month’s start to the 2021 Regional Cricket season.
More so, with a string of practice games set for this week, Savory and others will have a couple of opportunities to showcase what they have been doing during the-almost 9 months of downtime due to COVID-19.

The left-hander told Chronicle Sport, yesterday, that making his national appearance almost a year ago has been the driving force behind him keeping himself in shape for a possible recall.
“Around this time last season I made my debut and it was something I could never forget. Scoring a fifty on debut and bringing the team home to victory is something I always wanted to do playing for Guyana. It’s a great feeling and I’m looking forward to doing what I need to in order to make the Jaguars team for the Super50”.
With the band back together after lockdown forced them into seclusion and a life of ZOOM sessions as well as improvised personal training, Savory believed that time back together as a team will further help to reduce any form of rust.
“I’ve been doing some training at home and at various grounds it’s great to be back training with the guys, we haven’t been doing too much together so it will be a great feeling to be among the guys again”.

Looking at the three practice games at LBI, the Essequibo franchise player said it will be his first time ever playing at the East Coast venue but was elated to see the team have such a modernised facility at their disposal, especially ahead of such an unpredictable Professional Cricket League (PCL) season just weeks away.
“To be honest I never played at LBI this is my first opportunity getting to play there. I know it’s a new ground, new pitch so hopefully it goes well for me. I’m very anxious and hungry to play some cricket, getting to play at the new LBI facility. I’m very excited to go out there and play some cricket; it’s been a while I haven’t played some cricket. It’s a good opportunity”.
Monday was set to be the date for the fitness test before GCB rescheduled the test to another date. Savory, however, was adamant that the first step towards even getting close to regaining a spot in the team was acing the fitness exam before going onto our his best foot forward in the practice games.
“The fitness test is right around the corner, so I just want to be ready and ensure my fitness level is up. I want to get back into the senior team, so I plan on keeping it simple, score as much as I can in the practice games and hopefully it goes well for me.” he ended.
