ROSEAU, Dominica, (CMC) – Windward Islands Cricket Board president, Dr Kishore Shallow, said the cricket fraternity was hopeful about a full recovery for Volcanoes stroke-maker Tyrone Theophile who remained in a coma following a motorcycle accident on Christmas Day.
The 31-year-old Theophile reportedly suffered a fractured skull and has since been airlifted to neighbouring Martinique for further medical attention.
“The cricket community across the region stands by Tyrone in this extremely difficult period,” said Shallow, also the vice-president of Cricket West Indies.
“There has been an outpouring of support for him and his family, and we all remain optimistic that his inner strength will see him through this to a full recovery.”
West Indies players union, WIPA, also conveyed its best wishes to Theophile and his family.
“Our prayers are with you and your family at this time. We wish you a speedy and full recovery,” said WIPA president, Wavell Hinds.
Two government ministers said the prayers of the nation were with Theophile, a Dominican who has captained Windward Islands Volcanoes in the CWI domestic tournaments in recent seasons.
“Tyrone has been a very good cricketer, a national cricketer and we pray that he can get better and get back on his feet,” Sports Minister, Roslyn Paul said.
Health Minister, Irving McIntyre added: “He’s in a critical condition but we’re hopeful and we have to keep him in our prayers. He has made a significant contribution to sport in Dominica. He’s been a good friend and a well-loved person and we really wish him all the best.”
Theophile has played 68 first class games and scored 3 055 along with three hundreds. He last featured for Volcanoes in the 2019 first class championship.
