OUTGOING British High Commissioner His Excellency Greg Quinn has been made an Honorary Life Member of the Everest Cricket Club (ECC).

Mr Quinn, who was very active inside and outside of his office and a friend of the historic club, was symbolically recognised for his work at the club and country level, during a simple presentation ceremony earlier this week.

For several years, the high commissioner had helped to organise an annual T20 charity clash between the Diplomatic Corps and local teams.

In 2019, the ambassador arranged a match between ECC Masters and the Diplomatic Corps to raise funds for charity.

In 2017, the Diplomatic team had faced the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) in a similar clash.

President of the ECC, Manzoor Nadir, said that Quinn has been very close to the club and a fair and just diplomat.

“Because of his initiative, we collaborated quite a lot in the past. He has been a good friend of Everest and he has helped to promote our sports programme amoug the diplomatic community and youth groups.”

Nadir, who is also Speaker of the National Assembly, noted that Quinn’s contribution to Guyana transcends sport, since he was instrumental in fighting for fair elections this year.

Quinn was appointed British High Commissioner to Guyana in March of 2015.

Prior to his journey here, he had worked in Tallinn, Accra, Minsk, Baghdad, Kazakhstan and Washington.
