Crunch time looms as teams seek to regroup ahead of 5th round

AFTER 4 rounds of action, the veterans will now have a few days to rest and come back stronger as they prepare themselves for what could be an intense round 5, set to bowl off Monday November 30.

At Enmore Community Centre ground, Regal Masters tackle WD Mavericks while  KV Construction battle RP Construction Legends from 09:00hrs and 13:45hrs respectively.

At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Everest Masters will battle Bel Air RUBiS Ultra Tec, followed by the final match-up between WD Masters and Sand Piper Masters.

Round Four results

In the second scheduled match of the day, Sand Pipers Masters batted first but never seemed up to the task of scoring quick runs, apparently based on the fact that the overs were drastically reduced to 10 overs-a-side due to unfavourable weather conditions.

In the end, Sand Pipers batsmen in an attempt to score quickly appeared to lose their classic timing and elegant stroke-play, as they seemingly clashed and smashed to no avail, falling to 39 for 6 off their allotted 10 overs. Alvin Charran made 10, before being run-out, and Bhupendra Deokie 10, to be the only two Sand Pipers’ batsmen to reach double figures.

Considering it may be easy for Sand Pipers to blame weather conditions for their dismal performance, the theory of weather conditions supporting Regal’s bowlers may not be readily accepted. This is especially true, as in the case where Regal’s customary opening batsman Anthony Ifill, who enjoyed the rewards of a different role, captured the amazing figures of 3 for 2 off 2 overs – a spell which also included a maiden.

In reply, Regal opening batsmen Anthony Ifill and Eion Abel wasted no time in demonstrating their prowess, racing to 43 without loss in just 3.5 overs. Ifill smashed an unbeaten 28, which included three sixes, while Abel was 8 not out. Regal Masters won by 10 wickets.

Over at the Enmore Community Centre ground, after the first game was called-off due to a wet outfield,. West Demerara Masters made no hesitation to bat having won the toss in the second scheduled match of the day.

Closing their allotted 20 overs with a score of 95-8, Tailender, Sudesh Persaud made 20 to top score while opening pair of Elroy Fernandes and Ramesh Thakur made 18 and 11 respectively, with Chabiraj Ramcharran, 11, being the only batsmen to make double figures for their innings .Bowling for RP Construction, Chatterpaul Singh, picked up two wickets off 9 runs in two overs.

In reply, Vishnauth Gobin made 15 runs, while his middle-order counterpart Rohan Mangal contributed the highest score of the day (37), to launch their team to victory of 98-7 off 19.1 overs. In an attempt to contain the opponents, Sudesh Persaud and Stevel Haripal each sent two batsmen on their way. RP won by 3 wickets.
