THE Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has expressed condolences to National light heavyweight champion Dennis Thomas on the passing of his father.
Albert Thomas, 72 died last Sunday following a short period of illness. In a release the GBA said that the elder Thomas was a frequent supporter tournaments and one who assisted in guiding his son towards becoming one of the best boxers in Guyana and the Caribbean.
Dennis Thomas ruled the national middleweight circuit for years before moving up to light heavyweight and has represented Guyana as several major international tournaments including the Commenwealth games.
He is also one of four elite boxers earmarked to commence training for next year’s Olympic Qualifiers.
Albert Thomas will be laid to rest today.
