TWO local businesses, N&S Algoo Brokers and AMS Investment, partnered on Tuesday to donate a total of 75,000 masks to the Ministries of Education and Agriculture that will directly benefit school children, farmers and estate workers, among others.

Algoo’s, a licensed customs brokerage service, along with the newly-formed procurement company, gave 50,000 of the masks to the Ministry of Education, received by Minister Priya Manickchand, and 25,000 to the Agriculture ministry.

Finance Director, Sabrina Algoo, told this publication that there are still thousands of masks that are yet to be distributed, and that they will eventually decide to which ministries to donate them.

“It was a collective decision between the two companies that we must help our fellow Guyanese in the fight to flatten the curve and stop the virus from mutating,” Algoo expressed.

Cognisant that the wearing of masks is the new norm and that school will be opened shortly, she said they wanted to bring some sort of relief.
“Our inspiration comes from our two beautiful children; they watch and listen and know the seriousness of the situation and have asked us to be caring towards humanity. Our eldest daughter Lucy, a soon to be medical student, is eager for all Guyanese to act responsibly so that lives can return to normalcy,” Algoo expressed.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, Algoo said, at the handing over ceremony, that, as a mother, she wanted all those attending school to remain safe and healthy.

In addition, she offered that the donation will bring some sort of financial ease to parents who may have had to otherwise purchase the masks.
The Education Minister said that she was truly grateful for the donation and that it will assist in ensuring students remain safe while at school.
Further, Minister Manickchand said that the donation means that the ministry now has 50,000 fewer masks to source. She commended the two companies for their benevolence.

Also present at the event were Managing Director of Algoo’s, Nandalall Algoo, and AMS Investment representative, Su Riu Hui.
