THE assault charge against national cricketer, Christopher Barnwell, was dismissed on Monday as a result of insufficient evidence.
Barnwell, 33, was on trial before Magistrate Rondel Weever at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. On Monday, the Magistrate ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against
Barnwell and dismissed the charge. Barnwell was represented by attorney-at-law Savannah Barnwell.
On August 5, Barnwell made his first appearance before Magistrate Weever for assaulting an off-duty police officer during a cricket match.
The charge alleged that Barnwell reportedly assaulted the cop, who as playing on an opposing side during a match on March 25, 2019, at Thomas Lands, Georgetown. He was out on $30,000 bail.
Reports are the men had an argument and during the melee, Barnwell became annoyed and pushed Benn to the ground. The officer sustained bruises to his hands.
