POLICE are investigating the robbery of 70-year-old Abel Vernon who was beaten for his BLU cellphone, on Saturday, at the Vreed-en-Hoop Junction on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD).
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Vernon, a pensioner of Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara, was heading home when the two suspects accosted him. He was cuffed to his face and body during which the thieves stole the cellphone.
Police said one of the suspects – a 35-year-old male of Crane, WCD – was caught in the vicinity of the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH); the hunt is on for the other suspect, said to be 26 years old.
The victim was admitted to the WDRH where he is being treated for his injuries.
