FIVE elders, between the ages of 75 to 90, in Region Two, have each received $25,000 as part of an initiative of President, Dr Irfaan Ali, to help the elderly live a more comfortable life.
The five beneficiaries are Mavis Blucher, Ursella Henry, Chinta Persaud, Azeeman Ramnarine, and Albert Cabral. The cash was presented to community leaders who will make the presentations on behalf of President Ali.
Speaking at the first Regional Democratic Council (RDC) meeting, Regional Executive Officer, Devanand Ramdatt, said the persons who received the monetary donations are all senior citizens throughout the region. They were selected by members of the Regional Democratic Council. The persons who received the money live across Region Two and as far as Wakapoa.
According to Ramdatt, the Government has put many relief measures in place to assist pensioners to live a more comfortable life. He said while only five persons benefitted from the initiative, recommendations will be made for others.
