-injured husband, wife recovering
THE driver, who fled the scene after crashing into two prominent Rose Hall Town business owners on Monday night, turned himself over to the police on Tuesday.
This was confirmed by Commander of ‘B’ Division, Linden Isles, who revealed that the driver was taken for a medical examination after he alleged he was beaten following the accident.
The couple, who owns a chain of Imran’s stores, 57-year-old Imran Hamid and his wife Saudia Hamid, 52, is in a stable condition at a hospital in Georgetown after they were transferred from the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that they were making their way to one of their stores on motorcycle CK 2456, when they were struck down by motorcar bearing registration number PMM 5277 at around 18:05 hours on the Rose Hall Town Public Road.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the couple was proceeding east along the northern drive lane while the car was proceeding west along the southern drive lane and made a sudden turn north into the path of the motorcycle.
The couple fell off the motorcycle and as a result, sustained injuries about their bodies. This newspaper understands that Mrs. Hamid sustained a fractured right foot and was scheduled to undergo surgery while her husband sustained a gash to his head and injuries to his shoulder.
Police are continuing their investigations.
