Baker arrested with illegal gun

A 24-year-old baker was arrested after he dropped a .38 revolver handgun, after seeing police in the vicinity of Hadfield and Leopold Streets, Georgetown, on Thursday.
Police were, at the time, acting on information that there was a ‘robbery under arms’ in Smythe Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Reports indicated that police saw the 24-year-old baker, of Durban Street, standing along the western side of Leopold Street, and, upon noticing the police vehicle approaching, he dropped a black object and proceeded towards the southern side of the street.

He was stopped and searched by police and they found a black.38 revolver, along with two live .38 rounds, in the area where the baker was standing.
Thereafter, the police ranks took possession of the firearm and asked the baker if he was licensed to carry the firearm to which he replied in the negative.
He was cautioned, arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged. The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
