ORLANDO Jonas, 27, a labourer of Lot 500, Number One Road, East Berbice, Corentyne, was discovered in an unconscious state on the Albion Public Road on Saturday evening and when he was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, he was pronounced dead.
According to information, at around 19:30 hrs, Jonas and his co-worker and friend, Mahendra Ramnarine,19, were riding along the Albion Public Road, a short distance away from the Albion Police Station when Jonas suddenly turned around to confront two men who reportedly uttered remarks at him.
Ramnarine recalled he was riding in front and when he looked back he saw Jonas clutching at his neck and chest.
The two suspects were arrested pending investigation, after they went to the police to report that Jonas and his friend attempted to rob them.
However, Ramnarine has refuted the allegation and is contending that they were attacked.
He noted that, when Jonas collapsed, one of the suspects attempted to stab him in the neck with a knife but he managed to fight the attacker off and ran from the scene.
Despite putting up a defence, he received a big cut on his face. Police are investigating the incident.
