A PENSIONER who lived alone was discovered, on Tuesday, beaten to death at his Lot 6 Hope Lowlands Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
Dead is 90 year-old Sukhnanan Dugi, called Henry Sukhnanan. Police disclosed that the murder occurred between Monday and Tuesday morning.
Reports indicate that the pensioner lived alone in a two-storey wooden and concrete house and was last seen alive around 16:00 hours on Monday by his niece who visited him.
It is alleged that the niece visits regularly to cook, wash and clean for the pensioner and would usually run errands.
“The niece stated that on Tuesday, she went from her home in Vryhied’s Lust, East Coast Demerara to the Cove and John Post Office to transact business on the his behalf and on her arrival at the his home at about 11:00 hours, she observed his slippers at the top of the step and upon entering the house she saw what appeared to be bloodstains on the floor in the vicinity of sitting room and the kitchen and then saw his lifeless body lying under the kitchen sink with his head and upper body covered in what appeared to be blood,” police said.
The police was subsequently alerted and visited the scene where the body was examined and they discovered two open wounds at the back of his head, another wound to the right side of his face and swelling to the left side of his face.
Wounds were also found on his right hand and wrist.
A piece of wood, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered along with a bloodstained piece of cloth on the floor. The interior of the house did not appear to have been ransacked, and no signs of forced entry were observed.
The body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy as investigations continue.
