–motorcycles also seized, suspect who fled scene identified
COMMANDER of Regional Division Five, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper and his team on Friday seized over 61 kilos of marijuana during police operations at the Kingelly sea-dam and Weldaad seawall on the West Coast Berbice.
One of the suspects who fled the scene was identified as Shawn Sears, called “Shawn storm”.
One of the seizures resulted after a cordon- and-search exercise was conducted by the commander and team in the wee hours of Friday morning within the Weldaad Police Station district.
The other find occurred when the commander, an inspector and other ranks, acting on information, paid a visit to the Kingelly seadam, where upon them, a man fled the scene, leaving three motorcycles and two large transparent bulky plastic parcels hidden between tombs in the area.
The three motorcycles, bearing registration numbers CK 4203, CK 1363 and CH 7170, along with a green haversack containing one Samsung cellular phone, were also seized.
The plastic parcels, motorcycles and the green bag containing the cellphone were taken to the Weldaad Police Station.
At the station, the plastic parcels were opened and inside was a quantity of suspected cannabis sativa.
When weighed, the substance amounted to a total of 62 kilos, with a street value of over $10M. Police investigations are ongoing.
