Sour relationship between Kwakwani couple took sad turn

A relationship that turned sour and was heading for a separation has resulted in a 27-year-old Kwakwani, Upper Berbice River welder being dead and his reputed wife injured.

Dead is Leon Gobin of Kwakwani Park, Region 10. He was found dead after reportedly stabbing his 37-year-old reputed wife when she threatened to leave him during an argument at their home.

According to reports, at approximately 23:00 hrs on Sunday, the couple had a misunderstanding and Gobin told his wife that he will cease to exist if she leaves him.

When questioned by investigators, the woman said Gobin, on Sunday last, broke a beer bottle and dealt her a stab to her upper neck behind her ear.

She managed to escape from the house and went to her cousin’s home situated at Kwakwani, First Phase Housing Scheme.

Her cousin then took her to the Kwakwani Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and admitted a patient with her condition listed as stable.

On Monday, at approximately 09:00 hrs, the woman’s 14-year-old son, who lived at the same address, went to the house which was tightly secured with a padlock from the outside.

After gaining access, he saw the lifeless body of Gobin. The teen then ran out the house and informed the police.

The man’s body was examined and a laceration was observed around his neck and right palm.

An autopsy performed at the Memorial Garden Funeral Home and Crematorium Mortuary on Monday gave the cause of death as asphyxiation compression injuries to the neck consistent with suicide.
