UPON hearing the Guyana Election Commission (GECOM) announce on Sunday evening that Dr. Irfaan Ali is Guyana’s next President, Essequibians started to celebrate.
At the recent March 2, 2020 General and Regional elections, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) had won Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
On Sunday evening, loud music could be heard blaring from jukeboxes in many communities across the Region. Supporters could also be seen driving around on trucks with the party flag celebrating. Many supporters also used the opportunity to nail the party’s flag to their fences.
Many of them were heard shouting, “Red Force is back!” and “The PPP is back!” It was indeed a very happy moment for PPP/C supporters after waiting almost five months for Ali to be declared President. Many of them said that they’re happy that the wait is over, so that Guyanese can now continue to live as one people and one nation.
