A family of three at Grant Akawini, Lower Pomeroon is now homeless after their two-story house was completely gutted by fire on Monday. The family was reportedly on their farm when the incident occurred around 9:00 hours.

According to an occupant of the home, 39-year old Bevon Melville English, her husband Epston English is currently in the interior working. She related that she and her niece would usually go to the farm daily. The farm is located down the Akawini creek approximately one mile from their home.

Another villager, Julian Benjamin who was passing the creek with his boat, noticed smoke coming from the woman’s home. He immediately raised an alarm and persons formed a bucket brigade while others used a water pump to put out the fire. English later found her home  completely burnt.

A report has been lodged with the police at Charity while an investigation is ongoing.
