TWENTY-four-year-old Keyon Davis, of Hibernia Village on the Essequibo Coast, was, on Wednesday morning, slapped with two counts of setting fire to public buildings in Region Two. He made his first appearance before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was therefore granted $200,000 bail on each charge. He was granted bail on the condition that he reports to the Suddie Police Station every Monday at 9:00 hours.

The charge stated that Davis set fire to the Government army building at Maria’s Lodge on July 14 and also on the Criminal Investigation Department Office (CID), located at the Anna Regina Police Station. The fire burnt several sections of the building. Davis was arrested on July 15, when he denied the allegations.  The case will be called again on August 5 at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
