MORE than fifty families have benefitted from hampers, courtesy of Mount Olive Lodge.
Over the weekend, a batch of hampers was packed at its Carmichael Street headquarters. The hampers, which comprised a month’s supply of foodstuff and cleaning supplies, were garnered from donations and the brethren’s pockets, according to Master of the fraternity, Kwame Pindar.
He added that the initiative was a collective decision made by lodge members in light of COVID-19 and its effects on the less fortunate. He noted that, given the current situation, the fraternity will be continuing efforts to bring relief to the less fortunate in these trying times. “We are continuing this COVID-19 hamper initiative to bring relief to the needy during this time of difficulty.”
He added, “We have been reaching out to friends, companies and business people….we have also had donations from farmers.” The Lodge Master expressed gratitude to Namilco, Guyana Rice Development Board, Caribbean Surgeries Incorporated, Kissoon Dyal Rice Mill, other business owners and friends of the lodge.
Previously, seventy similar hampers were donated to the less fortunate, with a focus on single-parent families. According to Master Pindar, the lodge will continue to do what it can, “with the hope that better may come.”
