THE coronavirus epidemic has negatively impacted business in Guyana, small businesses in particular; consequently, small businesses have received much-needed financial relief from the Ministry of Business to cushion the impact of the epidemic on their operations.
The Guyana Chronicle during a visit to business places along Regent Street on Thursday, spoke to business owners about the phased opening of the country and how they felt about this measure.
One business owner told the Chronicle that he was glad for the measure, since it would mean more business for him and that more of his customers would be satisfied.
Another business owner who wishes to remain anonymous, said that business is hard for him at this time and that he can hardly pay his bills. He made the point that prior to the epidemic, he was able to pay his bills and maintain his family quite comfortably, but now that is quite difficult. He however expressed delight for the phased opening of the country, so that he can pay his rent and maintain his family.
The National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) stated that the Order was updated pursuant to paragraphs (1) and (2)(b) of the Directive by the President, given under the Public Health Ordinance, Cap. 145.

They join banks and other financial institutions; food stores, services and markets; funeral homes, gas stations; postal and shipping services; operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of essential services, including vehicles, vessels and aircraft and traffic signal maintenance and more.
