A 17-year-old boy is currently on the run after he escaped from the Juvenile Holding Centre in Sophia, on Tuesday.

The lad, who is a former resident of Leopold & Cross streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was on remand at the holding centre for murder.

On Tuesday, around 22:30hrs, 12 teenagers escaped from the Sophia facility, after brutally beating two police officers who were on guard.
Meanwhile, a thorough investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force, through stringent and well-planned efforts, managed to recapture 11 of the teen inmates, while the 17-year-old lad remains on the run.
