Dear Editor
I have decided to take a look back at our present political imbroglio and try to understand how we got here or there chronologically, and to determine who in actuality is taking us for a ride.
The first thing you have to decipher however is how long this political treachery was conceived by the opposition. Before the elections GECOM upon advice reduced the use of private residences as polling stations, in certain neighborhoods; GECOM realised this was fraud waiting to happen. The violent reaction to this exercise by the PPP operatives should have pulled GECOM coat, to consider if this reaction was not really a shade over a more diabolical plan.
Now with the blessing of the observers, if the results showed a PPP victory aided by their “Mercury friends” (who inundated my cell phone about the Christ like characteristics of the PPP) there is nothing the coalition could squawk about. Why? Because the people like the (OAS) who came with their political agenda and intentions for regime change, had initially given the elections a clean bill of health, and that would be that except for an election petition.
The first problem that came out of elections 2020, came from a PPP stronghold in Mon Repos. Voter fraud was detected. It was alleged that scrutinizers saw PPP operatives distributing fake ID cards to their supporters. A ruckus commenced and, these defenders of democracy, forced the Police to fire tear gas and rubber bullets into their crowd after they had blocked of Lusignan public road. (Strike #1)
The following day the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, said that the “commission was disappointed that after after 24 hours (RO’s) had not decided results. “Four days after the elections the newspaper headline declared that the “Coalition had taken the lead.” That headline brought out the herd, (led by their Leader) who invaded GECOM command centre, kicking down doors and brandishing weapons. They accosted the (RO), hampering him from fulfilling his duty, which is to declare the election results. It was reported that the opposition was “roundly condemned” for their actions. By who? The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce? The Private Sector Commission? The Lions? Guyana Public Service Union? GAWU? The TUC? The Churches? The Human Rights Organization? The ERC? who? (Strike #2)
Punit Ibaran a police Sergeant stationed at Blairmont Police station said; ” I though I was going to die.” In the village of Cotton tree, supporters (cowards) of the PPP beat Ibraran and broke his arms and also gave him a chop on his head. Other ranks were also beaten, and had to run for their lives. The same day the David Granger bus was stoned by supporters of the PPP, injuring children returning home from school. They beat up on a nurses car, and burnt down Mr Azeez butcher shop. (Strike #3).
On March 8th a man name Holladar ( a PPP supporter) filed an injunction against the (RO) and the (CEO) and the Guyana Elections Commission. The injunction was against the counting of the votes by GECOM. The High Court ruled that it had jurisdiction to hear the case brought by the injunction. In the meantime the injunction blocking the declaration remained.
(Stall # !).
On the 12th March the Chief Justice ruled that, the returning officer erred during the process of the SOP’s, and said ‘ it would be for the returning officer and or the deputy returning officer to decide whether in the interest of transparency , the addition process should be restarted or continued where it was left off. It would also be for these funtionaries to determine the best method of tabulating the statement of pools.” A spread sheet was suggested, which brought howls of despair from the PPP and their agents. The Chief Justice reiterated, ” the method of tabulation, be it, the use of a pencil and ruler or spread sheet, ought to be determined by the returning officer and not the persons entitled to be there.” (Stall # 2)
The President in discussion with the opposition leader signaled his intentions for the recounting of the votes in all ten regions, with (CARICOM’s blessings). While the modalities of for such an operation was being discussed, the PPP earlier on Saturday 14th, made an application to the court seeking to block the declaration of the final results of the 2020 elections. This was then followed by a man name Ramson”s injunction, to refrain GECOM from making a final declaration. (Stall # 3 ).
In all of the goings on, one would think that the ERC would have gotten involved, unfortunately these jokers are looking at the side of the bread that has the butter and would continue to be quiet. Plus the PPP bullyism has cowered them into a corner. What a bunch of Jokers.
As the High Court got ready to discuss Ulita Moore’s Fixed Date Application (FDA) to permanently block GECOM from facilitating a national recount, ( under the auspices of CARICOM). The opposition leader had already filed another injunction to GECOM “for discovery” in his attempt to force GECOM to produce the SOP,s for the votes cast in region four. This was denied. Not to be undone the PPP filed another injunction challenging the courts jurisdiction to hear the recount injunction. This is called pelting mud against a wall hoping something would stick. (Stall # 4)
As we climbed into April it must be understood that the PPP was not only fighting in the courts, nah…this group was also fighting through their hired gun “Mercury.” Their gun accosted the coalition of peddling false information, and the false narrative of its victory. The coalition was accused of planning to physically overthrow the elections tabulation to region four ( a-la PPP and their hooligans style). It was also reported, that the PPP was even bold enough to produce votes based on SOP’s of February 29,2019.
Finally the High Court ruled that GECOM cannot farm out its responsibility. You, GECOM is in complete charge of the Guyana elections: as long as you stay within your ambit, what you say about the election is law. It matters not how noble CARICOM is, our elections is none of their business. Ulita Moore got what she had petitioned for. Following this decision, GECOM has agreed to a recount of all the ballots cast in the March 2 elections. (Stall # 5).
In the meantime a leader of a bunch of old rich people who call themselves the Private Sector Commission, a poodle for the PPP made a couple of statements. March 27/2020, he said; ” there is no region four results which means there is no national results which means we have to count every vote in every box under the supervision of an international task force of election inspectors.” Oh, and by the way Lowenfield you gone, he don’t like you. Then in his next breath he said, ” that a national recount of the votes cast was a waste of time.” This is an about face; but as my old grandmother Clar-Clar would say “don’t tie bundle with them, if they tell you run, sit right down.” This man needs to understand that he only have clout with his old rich friends, but he damn well don’t have no clout with us. (Stall # 6).
In preparation for this election dubbed the “mother of all Elections” a number of voices figured that from their lofty positions, they have the testicular fortitude to lecture and pontificate about themselves and their organiastions, and about their desires which do not include us. This is not a new play book. This playbook has been used often and repeated times to put obsequious Governments in power, so that they can be easily manipulated. This is no coincidence. this is like minded groups ( that hire organizations like Mercury) to fabricate dangerous scenarios and obfuscate their past shenanigans, and most importantly hide them from the law.
Now for most of you people who were out of the country, or under a rock, prior to the elections, I want to pull your coats to the promotions done by the PPP aided and abetted by their squaddies who writes for the Rag’s that unfortunately uses the universal name “newspapers.” Here are some of their quotes.
A man name Mangal said, ” this Government has misused the Courts and continues to misuse the courts judging by the outcomes.” “If the coalition wins in 2020 its victory would be framed by the PPP as fraudulent and the Government would not be recognized.” ” What it is, is a crude and blatant attempt to subvert the March 2 elections. Senior officials of GECOM began a treacherous campaign to steal the elections.” This is from an Oracle; ” I find it hard to be convinced that GECOM chair is not playing the games of the APNU/AFC.” ” March 4th, the rigging of district 4 tabulation was in full swing.” “GECOM chair will be recorded in the annals of electoral INFAMY in this country.”
The leader of the opposition said “that if the coalition is returned to office, he will make the country ungovernable.” Corona #2? Either way I must confess that I would be looking forward to that. Another scribe who cannot write two words without calling some old white man Philosopher’s name, said: ( and of course he is clairvoyant) ” that the APNU/AFC rigged the 2020 elections.” “And he went further ” Leaders inside the Kingdom of the PNC/AFC are prepared to BREAK UP GUYANA VIOLENTLY.” Violently he said; Will someone please awake this Trojan Horse from his slumber and tell him about “Cotton tree”,Bush Lot, Lusignan, and Mon Repos, the storming of GECOM office with guns drawn, and last but not least the injuring of black people children, when bad ass PPP supporters show their strength against a school bus.
This is for the Leader of the PPP and his sycophants, in the illustrious words of Garfield Sobers to Lance Gibbs with Barbados tottering at Bourda. ” I ain’t bat yet,” No, Mr Jagdeo, ” we en’t bat yet.”
