A 32-year-old Pomeroon man is missing after a small civilian boat collided with a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard vessel around 21:00hrs on Monday night.

Missing is Ryan Khayum who lives in the Lower Pomeroon. The man’s wife, Chandanie Mangra Khayum along with two men were injured and rushed to the Oscar Joseph Hospital at Charity for treatment.

The GDF in a statement said that the vessel- GDFS HAWK 1028- which had four ranks on board was returning from Charity to the Floating Base when the boat collided with the civilian vessel.

Residents told the Guyana Chronicle that the coastguard ranks reeked of alcohol and according to them, when this was pointed out to the police, they were ordered out of the police station compound.

Coast Guard ranks along with several civilians have since launched a search for the missing man.The Guyana Defence Force has since commenced a Board of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
