Meat vendors and stall owners operating in both Bourda and Stabroek markets aiding in the fight against COVID-19

IN an effort to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, vendors and operators of meat stalls in both Bourda and Stabroek markets are adhering to the precautionary measures that were put in place by the Ministry of Public Health.

This publication paid a visit to both markets and spoke to stall owners, who pointed out that, before they deliver meat, inclusive of fish, to their customers, they ensure that the countertops, on which the products are displayed, are properly and thoroughly sanitised.
“We normally wash down the counter to make sure that the surface is clean. When I arrive in the mornings, the girls normally ensure the countertops are clean, before the day’s sale begins. “One vendor told Guyana Chronicle.

The Vendors reported that, since the call to adopt precautionary measures, there was a significant decrease in revenue as well as customers, but, nevertheless, business was still being engaged in but at a slow rate.

The Ministry of Public Health had issued an advisory which encourages citizens to ensure that they practise proper handling, preparation and thorough cooking of meat before eating.

The vendors pointed out that they were taking precautionary measures to ensure that they were protected and the spread of COVID-19 was contained.

Currently, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread across the world and the World Health Organization (WHO), on March 11, characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic.
