A quick response by a contractor’s crew prevented what could have been a far more serious emergency at the Hosororo dorms early this morning.
The smoke alarm sounded at 3 a.m. When the dorm parent on duty went to investigate, they found a bucket of burning paper and fabric in the laundry room.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that the contractor doing work at the site also responded to the alarm system and sent his team to contain the fire.
No one was injured. The only damage was to a nearby washing machine.
The fire appears to have been set deliberately, and early indications point to a female student. Her identity has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
More details to follow.
