PRP Presidential Candidate robbed on Mash Day

PRESIDENTIAL candidate for the People’s Republic Party (PRP), Dr. Valerie Leung, was, on Mashramani Day, Sunday, February 23, 2020, attacked and robbed, after leaving the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) at Barrack Street, Georgetown.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle on Monday, Dr. Leung explained that she had just come out of the GECOM headquarters, at Barrack Street, at about 16:13 hours, on Sunday, and was walking along High Street.

At the time she was on her cell phone while her handbag was hung over her shoulder.
While walking, she felt a hand tugging on her handbag, after which she was attacked and thrown onto the ground with force.

While on the ground, she was relieved of her cell phone and handbag which contained cash and other personal documents.

The robber got on a waiting motorcycle, which was ridden by his accomplice.
The matter was reported to the police, who are expected to review Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras from nearby businesses.

Dr. Leung said that she received bruises and hit her head when she was thrown on the ground by the bandit, but is grateful to the almightily for being alive.
