Headteacher robbed over $2M in valuables

A HEADTEACHER attached to the Kildonan Primary School, East Berbice Corentyne, was relieved  of over $2M in valuables and cash after two men armed with a gun and cutlass, confronted her while she was about to get up after hearing a strange noise.

The men then proceeded to demand from her, cash and jewellery. She complied and handed over a bag containing a quantity of jewellery that belonged to her family, as well as her late husband.

Her entire house was also ransacked as the men searched for more valuables.

According to information, the jewellery amounted to $2.3M. In addition, the bandits carted off some $100,000 in cash, one tablet device and one cell phone valued at $100,000.

The incident occurred at around 04:45hrs, on Thursday, at the home of Shereen Ali, 48, of Lot 764 Lancaster Village.

The woman recalled that she was awoken by a loud noise coming from the lower flat of her house and moments after she got up to check, she was confronted by the masked men, one of whom placed the gun to her neck and threatened to shoot her if she attempted to scream.

During the ordeal, her children, ages 21 and 16, were asleep in their bedrooms. The men gained entry to the house by removing several louvers from a window in the lower flat.

Police are investigating the incident.
