Man dies in Mahaicony accident

POLICE are investigating the death of a 57-year-old man who died following an accident at Planters Hall, Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday night.

Dead is Terrence D’Aguiar, of Lot 2 Cottage, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara
According to the police, around 18:00hrs on Sunday, a minibus bearing registration BXX3501, owned and driven by a 49-year-old resident of BB Eccles, East Bank, was proceeding west along the southern side of the roadway, when, as alleged by the driver, D’Aguiar, a pedal cyclist, who was also proceeding west, made a sudden right turn in front of the minibus and collided with the vehicle.

The pedal cyclist fell onto the road and sustained injuries to his head and neck. He was picked up by the driver in an unconscious condition, placed in the mini bus, and taken to Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was detected. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
