TWO pensioners, who reside at Lot 1 John’s Settlement, East Berbice, Corentyne, were left in a traumatised state after four armed bandits broke into their home and demanded the couple hand over all their cash and valuables.

The incident occurred between Friday around 18:30hrs and Saturday 02:30hrs.

Masked with a cloth over their faces and armed with a gun, a cutlass and two shears, the men cut through a zinc in the roof to gain entry into the one-storey wooden and concrete house.

According to information received, the owner, Patricia Mohabir, 64, and her husband, Ramrattan Mohabir, were awoken by a loud noise in the living room area and as they got up to check, they noticed a big hole in the roof.

At that point in time they were confronted by the bandits. The bandit who was armed with the gun pointed it to the husband and urged that they remain quiet as they made their demands.

During the ordeal, the bandits ransacked the house and took $200,000 in cash, approximately $200,000 worth in jewellery and a cellphone.

The robbers escaped on foot. The couple sells poultry feed for a living.
One suspect has been arrested as police continue their investigation.
