Bowlers and Nannan spur GCC to 40-over victory against MYO

– Transport beat Bel Air Rubis by four wickets

HOME team, the Georgetown Cricket Club, snarled eight wickets for 55 runs to destabilise the visiting Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) batting and earn a victory when the two teams battled on Sunday in the GCA-New Building Society (NBS) 40-over second division competition.

Winston Forrester had an all-round game for GCC.

GCC won the toss and opted to take first strike. Raj Nannan led the way with a 48-ball 67 runs, but although he got some support, the side could did not register a big score. Instead, they succumbed for 217 in 39 overs.

Devon Lord, who had a cricket stint in Canada last year, supported with 45 (2x4s, 3x6s), while West Indies U-15 batsman, Mavendra Dindyal, added 35 (5x4s) and Winston Forrester made 34 (5x4s, 1×6).

Bowling for MYO, Timore Mohamed and Christopher Surat took four wickets each.

Needing to score at 5.45 runs per over for victory, MYO were cruising at 100-1 with Richard Latif and Skipper Kemraj Ramdeen leading the charge, but when their 93-run partnership was broken, the visitors fell apart.

Latif scored 63 (5x4s, 2x6s), while Ramdeen made a more watchful 40.

Devon Allen scored an aggressive 75 to lead Transport to victory.

Leading the charge for the home team with the ball were Carlos La Rose and Winston Forrester.  Both bowlers finished with four wickets each.  Off-spinner Forrester, who was on a hat-trick, finished with 4-27 while La Rose ended with 4-29, as MYO succumbed for 155 in 36.4 overs.

The Transport Sports Club also claimed a comfortable win, when they tackled Bel Air Rubis II at the Queen’s College ground.

Bel Air batted first and scored 207 in 39 overs with Keon Franklin top-scoring with 85 (9x4s, 4x6s). Support came from Orlando Persaud, who made 48.

Shaun Massiah nabbed 4-34 with his medium pace, while Mark Baptiste took 2-45.

In their turn in the middle, Transport unleashed a plethora of scoring shots, which propelled them to the target in 29 overs.

Opener Devon Allen led the attack with an aggressive 75 (4x4s, 5x6s), while Sunil Singh supported with 38 and Massiah with 20 not out, to steer their team to victory.
