Guilty ‘slapper’ to spend five months in prison

MAGISTRATE Faith McGusty, on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, sentenced a 50-year-old man to five months in prison, for slapping his reputed wife.

Wayne Johnson, a labourer of Waterloo Street, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to one of two charges.

Particulars of the first charge stated that, on January 17, 2020 at North Road, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Carlann Smith.

The second charge stated that, on the same day, and at the same place, he used threatening language towards Carlann Smith.

“We had a discussion and she run up in my face. She mek she mouth come close close to mine so I box her. I very much sorry,” Johnson said.

“He hands get spring, this is not the first time nor the second time he hit me. I fed up, I am totally fed up. When he box me, I ran by my friend and he came and cuss me out. I just run and go by the station and report the matter” Smith told the court.

Magistrate McGusty, after listening to both parties, sentenced Johnson to five months in prison in relation to the first charge. With respect to the second charge, Johnson is expected to return to court on February 5, 2020.
