A 79-year-old cyclist was crushed to death by a truck on Friday on the Enmore Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara while he was crossing the roadway.
Dead is Francis Lopes of Seventh Street, North Enmore.
Reports indicate that the truck involved in the accident came from Berbice and was headed to Georgetown when its occupants stopped to purchase food.
Just after the truck pulled off, it collided with the cyclist who was crossing the road, crushing him to death.
According to police, the driver said he did not see anything on the road but felt an impact to the truck’s rear wheel.
After stopping and investigating, he discovered the pensioner’s lifeless body lying on the roadway.
The truck was being driven by a 37-year-old man of Logwood, Enmore.
