TWO men, who allegedly robbed a 50-year-old miner of cash, gold and other valuables at Takatu Backdam, were arrested by the police while they were in a boat at the Bartica Stelling.
The miner was identified as Joao Dsosristinto of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Reports indicate that Dsosristinto was robbed at Takatu Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven at around 23:30hrs on Friday.
The miner was reportedly sleeping at his mining camp along with his cook and another worker when he was attacked. He was reportedly awakened by two masked men, armed with cutlasses. The bandits reportedly tied up Dsosristinto before robbing him of two Samsung cell phones, $850,000 in cash, four colognes, and $200,000 in raw gold.
Acting on information received, a police team went to the Bartica Ferry Stelling where the two suspects were arrested. The men were heading to Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
They were escorted to Bartica Police Station, a short distance away, where they were searched and the items along with $400,000 cash were recovered. They subsequently confessed to the crime.
