Saints and GCC Eagles win U10 and U13 hockey titles

SAINT Stanislaus College  and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Eagles emerged victorious in the finals of the U-10 and U-13 divisions respectively when the National Junior Indoors Hockey Championships continued yesterday afternoon at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

In the Simcom Engineering U-10 Mixed Division final, Saints got past GCC Panthers 3-2.

Kristian Viapree scored in the opening minute for the Panthers, while Oswald Fraser answered in the third minute for Saints. Both teams went on to score again in the eighth minute via goals from Grant Fernandes (Panthers) and Jamaine Grosvenor (Saints) before Fraser sealed the win for Saints in the ninth minute with his second strike.

In the third-place playoff, GCC Thunderbolts defeated YMCA Old Fort Winkies by a 4-0 margin. Kyle Couchman netted all four goals. He scored in the 1st, 3rd, 9th and 10th minutes of play.

In the semi-finals, Saints edged out Thunderbolts 1-0, via a Fraser strike in the fifth minute, while Fernandes scored twice to hand the Panthers a 2-0 victory against Old Fort.

Meanwhile, GCC Eagles registered a 4-0 victory against SHC Samurai in the Sunshine Snacks U-13 Mixed Division final.

Joshua Bento scored the first and last goals in the second and ninth minutes, while winner of the Most- Goals trophy, Vladimir Woodroffe, scored the second in the fifth minute and Shane Lucas Sargeant, a goal in the 11th minute.

In the third place clash, two successful strikes by Daniel Jacobs handed SHC Scorchers a 2-0 victory against SHC Scalpels.
