TWO bandits, one armed with a handgun, robbed a taxi driver of his cash and valuables after he was requested to drive through a Cemetery in Best Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD) Thursday night.
Reports indicate that the 24-year-old taxi driver operated a silver coloured Toyota 212 motor car, PLL 4212 at a taxi base located next to Guyoil Gas Station in La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
According to reports, the taxi driver picked up a passenger who requested to be taken to Crane Village, WCD. On the way, another person was picked up and the driver was asked to proceed to Best Village where he was asked to turn into the cemetery road.
During the journey, the man in the rear seat pointed a gun to the taxi driver’s head and demanded all his valuables.
The taxi driver then stopped the car and handed over his cash. He then opened the door and sprinted away from the vehicle towards the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he made contact with a security officer.
The robbery was then reported to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. A group of policemen later discovered the taxi driver’s vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
Police are continuing their investigations.
