THE MUSLIM Youth Organisation (MYO) started their GCA/NBS Second Division 40-over campaign with wins, over the weekend, against GYO and Diplomats.

The semi-finalists of last season’s competition, who are hoping to again make the final four this year, are in the same zone as defending champions, GCC.

On Saturday, playing at home against the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) and leading from the front was skipper Khemraj Ramdeen who blasted an unbeaten 112.

Ramdeen struck 18 fours batting at number three, to lead MYO to 278-9 from 40 overs.  A few other batsmen also had starts with opener Rudolph Singh hitting 33 and lower-order batsman, Timore Mohamed, unleashing a boundary-laden assault as he scored 38 of his 39 runs in boundaries.

He belted five fours and three sixes before left-arm spinner Trevon France bowled him.  France led the visitors attack with three wickets.

In reply, GYO were routed for 144 in 25 overs with Christopher Surat leading the charge.

The off-spinner, who decimated the visitors’ middle and lower order, finished with 6-22 from seven overs.

  1. Liverpool and J. Ramsammy had starts for GYO with scores of 36 and 35 respectively.
Joel Spooner has set the bowling bar high with 8-12 from 6.1 overs for Transport.

On Sunday at the Queen’s College ground, MYO made light work of Diplomats in a match reduced to 32 overs.

MYO batted first and scored 253-6 with opener Shafiek Ishmael hitting 78 (10x4s) and Ramdeen scoring 57 (4x4s, 1×6).  Surat also played a few shots toward the end of the innings as he clobbered four fours in a score of 33.

Diplomats were undone for 105 in 24.3 overs, which handed MYO a 148-run win.

Marlon Boele spun his way to 4-28 from 5.3 overs, Mohamed and Ishmael (who also had a pair on Saturday), took two wickets each.

SPOONER’S DOMINANCE

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Joel Spooner walked through Sophia, to pick up staggering figures of 8-12 from 6.1 overs.

The Transport Sports Club off-spinner led the home team’s routing of Sophia for 78 in 23.1 overs.

Transport then cruised to 84-3 in 8.3 overs with Spooner hitting 23 (2x4s, 2x6s).
