CHUNG’S Global Enterprise, one of the country’s leading Construction companies, yesterday threw their support behind the November 9-10 Mackeson/Rawle Toney 3X3 Basketball Classic, which will be held at the Burnham Basketball Court, Independence Park, in Georgetown.
The tournament, which will feature some of the top 3X3 teams from across Guyana, will see the winner pocket $300 000, while second- and- third place are set to receive $100 000 and $50 000 respectively.
Tansy Plowell, assistant to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cleon Chung, upon making her presentation to organiser Rawle Toney at their 622A Industrial Reserve Mandela Avenue location, said the entity was pleased to be associated with the tournament, given the fact it seeks to resusitate interest into the sport.
Plowell added that Chung’s Global Enterprise is known for its generosity and were happy to support sports and more so the shortened format of basketball.
Meanwhile, Toney thanked Plowell and Chung’s Global Enterprise, adding, “I’m happy with the support given to the tournament so far and I want to particularly thank Mr Cleon Chung and his company for coming on board.”
“I consider this tournament a ‘give-back’ to basketball, since the sport is badly lacking relevance in Guyana’s local sports landscape. I believe that the sport is currently left behind and I see this tournament as one of the ways I can help Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) and its affiliates to bring fans back to the sport,” Toney said.
FireSide Grill, Guyana Lottery Company’s Let’s Bet Sports, Trophy Stall, Kester Gomes’ STUFF and Ansa McAl Trading are the tournament’s sponsors so far.
