– Released on $500, 000 bail

Former Cop, Teon Allen, who was wanted by the police for attempted murder, was on Monday charged for discharging of a firearm with intent on Tuesday, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. He appeared before Magistrate Wonda Fortune and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Allen was released on $50,000 bail and is expected to return to court on October 7, 2019.

The police was advised to charge Allen after video footage surfaced showing a male, suspected to be him, carrying out the act. Allen is however strongly contending that he is not the person in the video. He too submitted a video to the police as an alibi. The video showed him at another location, at the time of the incident.

Allen turned himself in last week, after a wanted bulletin was released by the Guyana Police Force, in connection with attempted murder on Denise Grant and Tiffany McDeth, in Amelia’s Ward, on September 2, 2019. While Allen was in custody, his car was reportedly torched and a bystander witnessing the incident, was reportedly shot by the perpetrators. It is suspected that the act was carried out by members of a Cayenne-based Guyanese gang, operating in Linden.

Last Thursday, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), journeyed to Linden and arrested 14 males who are suspected to be involved in the ongoing gang violence. Ten of these were subsequently released but four were charged for offences ranging from possession of narcotics and acquiring military clothing from the Guyana Defence Force. These are Adrian Webster, Yuriel Lewis, Rodwell Fraser and Lennox Estwick. Rodwell Fraser was released on $20, 000 bail and Estwick was released on $5, 000 bail. Webster and Lewis were fined $10, 000 in addition to being ordered to conduct community service.

Meanwhile Region 10 officials, residents and ranks of ‘E’ Division, believe that the arrest would bring a rest to the gang-related violence Lindeners were exposed to, over the last few months.

Since the feud started some months ago, allegedly between Allen and the ‘Cayenne Gang’, at least one person has been stabbed; vehicles were torched, one person was shot and shots were fired at several properties, with intent to harm those inside. ‘E’ Division has ramped-up patrols in the communities, especially in Amelia’s Ward.
