Persaud making an early impression in Canada’s Elite 50-overs League

FORMER national Under-19 wicketkeeper/batsman Nathan Persaud is now plying his trade in Canada. In his debut season for Apollo Cricket Club, Persaud is already having a dream start with his team leading in the points standing and securing a semi-final spot in the competition.

In a recent interview with Chronicle Sport, Persaud disclosed that “my experience has been a challenging one, including adopting to the weather conditions and competing among international players as well”.

The elegant left-hander has accumulated over 300 runs in 8 innings so far including an unbeaten 120 recently in the keenly contested tournament. In addition, the 23-year-old from Bush Lot on the Essequibo Coast boasted of being the most impressive wicketkeeper in the league with the most dismissals.

The season will conclude at the end of September and Persaud is confident that he will continue to play a leading role in his team’s quest for the coveted title. He also mentioned his desire to return and stake his claim for a place in the national senior side since he acknowledged ‘my expectation is to play for Guyana at the senior level and I’m working extremely hard, including on my fitness so as to achieve my long-term goals”.

Persaud also plays for Bacchus Bulls in Essequibo. He has since expressed thanks to the members of the club for their continued support as well as former national fast bowler Trevon Garraway, whose input has been instrumental in his playing in North America. (Elroy Stephney)
