Butcher shot, robbed while purchasing cattle in Corentyne

POLICE are investigating a robbery under arms which occurred at approximately 07:45hrs on Thursday, leaving a butcher nursing a gunshot injury.

The Guyana Chronicle was told that Abdool Hack, 64, a butcher, and his son, Afab Hack, 22, a businessman of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, travelled to Babu Jaan, Port Mourant, where they were expected to purchase cattle.

The business arrangement was reportedly set up by a Corentyne businessman. After arriving at the location, the father and son parked the canter and awaited the arrival of the persons to conduct the transaction and to collect the animals. However, they were confronted by a gunman who brandished his weapon while demanding cash and valuables.
The elder Hack was relieved of $600,000 cash while his son was relieved of $30,000 cash and his cellphone. Meanwhile, during the ordeal, the bandit struck the elderly man to his head and a scuffle subsequently ensued during which the lone gunman opened fire hitting Hack on his left thigh. The man quickly made his escape by foot while the injured was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition. Investigation is ongoing.
