THE Anna Regina Multilateral School (ARMS), located at Cotton Field, Region Two, continues to perform well at the Caribbean Secondary School Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
This year, Riana Toney copped the top position in the country with 19 grade ones while Charrandat Narine came in third with 18 grade ones and a grade two.

Regional Education Officer, Nicola Matthews

According to Regional Education Officer, Nicola Matthews, the Anna Regina Multilateral School continues to set the bar for the region.

Having received the news that Region Two secured the top position at the CSEC examinations, Matthews said she was speechless. The regional education officer said the Region Two has seven students in the national top 100 and commended the teachers of ARMS and Abram Zuil Secondary.

She said the two schools continue to perform well at the examinations. The regional education officer said she is satisfied thus far with the results; however, she is anticipating the matriculation results.

For her, it is important for the students in the region to excel in Mathematics and English.  She said Region Two has been consistently outshining the other administrative regions. Last year, Shakira Bhola was placed second in the country.

She said the Department of Education will continue to work with all secondary school teachers to mold the nation’s children. The department has moved the “subject committee” to the schools, involving heads of departments and ensuring that all teachers work together in the best interest of the children.

ARMS Headmaster, Lalljeet Ruplall

A mathematic specialist has also been working with teachers from the various secondary schools. These changes, Mathews said, has contributed to the region’s success.
The department has also created ‘Whatsapp’ groups where teachers from various secondary schools can communicate and provide solutions to issues facing them.

Matthews said although the Abram Zuil Secondary School will soon be under construction, she is confident students within the region will continue to perform well.

She also said the government through the Ministry of Education has been investing heavily in the education sector ensuring children’s need and social environment are met.

Headteacher of the Anna Regina Multilateral School, Sir Lalljeet Ruplall, said he is very pleased with the school’s performance and congratulated the staff for their dedication. Last year, the school managed to produce the second top performer for the country, Shakira Bholo, who achieved 21 subjects at the examinations.

“In 2001, for the first time, the school made its name with student David Gooray topping the country at the examinations. In a gap of seven years, Safraz Sharief topped the country then Rahul Lall maintained the schools’ position in 2008 and Zimeena Rasheed in 2013. In 2008, Rahul Lall was named the best Tech VOC student for the Caribbean and in 2013, the now deceased Yogeeta Persaud received the best overall outstanding achiever award for the Caribbean.  In 2013, Zimeena Rasheed was also awarded the Best Tech VOC student and in 2015 her sister, Aliyah Rasheed, maintained the title for the school,” the headmaster said.
